Almost everything that leaves this studio starts as a blank sheet of paper. You bring a reference, a story, a scar you want covered or a half-formed idea you can't quite describe, and one of our artists turns it into a drawing built for the specific stretch of skin it's going to live on. That last part matters more than most people realize: a design that looks perfect on a screen can fall apart when it's wrapped around a forearm or a ribcage.

How a custom piece actually gets made

It starts with a free consultation — in person is best, but we do plenty over the phone. We'll talk through subject matter, placement, size, budget and how much time you're willing to sit. From there your artist works up a drawing, you review it, and we adjust until it's right. On the day of your appointment we stencil, we check the fit in a mirror, and we don't put a needle down until you're happy with where it sits. Revisions before the tattoo are free. Revisions after are a very different conversation.

Designing for the body, not for the page

Muscle moves. Skin ages. A design has to read from across a room and still hold up six inches away. Our artists build flow into the composition from the first sketch — the way a piece follows the deltoid, how negative space breathes around a subject, where to put the darkest black so the whole thing still reads in ten years. This is the part that separates a tattoo from a printout, and it's the reason people drive from all over metro Detroit to sit in these chairs.

Custom Tattoo Design — what people ask.

Do I need to bring a finished design to my consultation?

No. Most people arrive with reference images, a rough idea, or just a story they want told. Bringing references helps your artist understand the look you're after, but the drawing is our job — that's what you're paying for.

How much does a custom tattoo cost at Inkslingers?

Custom work is quoted per piece based on size, placement, detail and how many sessions it needs. Smaller work is priced flat; larger projects are booked hourly. We give you a real number at your consultation before you book, and a deposit goes toward the final cost.

Can I see the design before the day of my appointment?

For larger projects, yes — we'll share the drawing ahead of time so you can sit with it. For smaller pieces, artists often finalize the drawing the morning of your appointment so it's fresh, and you'll review the stencil on your skin before we start.
